Energy efficiency<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ciments du Maroc has implemented an energy policy in line with Morocco\u2019s commitments in this area.<\/p>\n

In fact, we have focused on diversifying our energy supplies, which we produce ourselves and buy from third parties.<\/p>\n

In fact, our sites are supplied with up to 80% of electrical energy from green sources via:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Our own power generation facilities, the Laayoune wind farm and the WHR (Waste Heat Recovery) system, a cutting-edge technology that uses residual process heat energy to generate electricity,<\/p>\n

\u2022 Sourced from local producers.<\/p>\n

This avoids 180,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Reducing electricity consumption in our buildings by 20%, by promoting the use of energy-saving lamps (LEDs), and by involving all our staff.<\/p>\n

ISO 50001 Management System<\/strong><\/p>\n

In order to reduce their energy bills and CO2 emissions, our production sites have implemented constantly updated action plans based on: Energy balances and audits to identify optimization potential;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Investments in highly energy-efficient equipment (vertical milling, variable speed drives, etc.);<\/p>\n

\u2022 Optimized management of production facilities.<\/p>\n

It was in this context that we decided to set up an energy management system at the Ait Baha plant and to certify it ISO 50001. As the first cement plant in Morocco to obtain this certification, this site was the first to benefit from a framework of requirements enabling it to develop a policy of efficient energy use.<\/p>\n

Reducing CO2 emissions<\/strong><\/p>\n

To reduce these CO2 emissions, we have implemented many levers :<\/p>\n

\u2022 We have put in place a roadmap with major investments for the reduction of CO2 emissions based on: reduction of the clinker in cement, investment in the best technologies, use of alternative fuels, introduction and promotion of low-carbon products.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Our CO2 emissions are drastically controlled and audited.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Over 80% of our electricity comes from renewable sources.<\/p>\n

Circular economy and waste recovery<\/p>\n

Project for a household waste processing platform in Agadir:<\/p>\n

Ciments du Maroc has signed an investment agreement with the government and local authorities for the construction of a platform for the treatment of household waste in Agadir.<\/p>\n

This platform will enable raw household waste to be processed to produce a clean fuel for the cement plant, which will be used as an alternative fuel.<\/p>\n

Innovation to reduce CO2 emissions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ciments du Maroc uses innovative and least polluting technologies and techniques that reduce CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n

At our Safi plant in Morocco, we launched a large-scale research and demonstration project in 2018 together Omega Green. The goal was to use CO2 captured from the cement kiln to grow microalgae, which can be used for a number of purposes.<\/p>\n
